Brand Protection Assistant

Location: Westcott, near Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire but will require frequent UK travel and some European travel
Hours of Work: 8.30am to 5.30pm (Monday to Thursday) and 8.30am to 4.00pm on Friday

The role of the Brand Protection Assistant is to provide administrative support and assist in the protection of the brand through effective communication, product knowledge, and sound relationships with both internal and external New Era Cap Company contacts.
Knowledge and experience of Intellectual Property Enforcement and infringing Internet sales preferred, however not essential.  Brand protection background and/or a law degree is desirable. Some overnight travel (and weekend work) may be required.
    
This position reports to Brand Protection Director.

Basic Functions / Skills, Experience and Knowledge
  • Provide effective communication, both verbal and written, with Police, Customs, Trading Standards, Private Investigators, and authorised New Era Cap distributors / retailers to protect the brand. Act as initial contact point with enforcement agencies in Brand Protection Director’s absence.
  • Must be “product expert”, assisting in providing timely and accurate information. Transmission of information to internal New Era Cap contacts and Distributors, and relevant external authorities.
  • To develop knowledge in differing regulations and procedures relating to counterfeit and parallel products in various worldwide territories.
  • Monitor and administer the legal process against traders who sell infringing goods and utilise global sales and auction websites, such as eBay, Apollo, Yahoo!, Alibaba, etc identifying and making trap purchases of counterfeit product, the taking down of such sites and the supervision of civil action under the guidance and supervision of the Brand Protection Director.
  • Establish & maintain database by country of all contacts worldwide including Sub/Distr, Law Firms, Customs, and Police etc.
  • Establish and maintain databases of inspections and prosecutions worldwide.
  • Establish and maintain a worldwide database of known/suspected infringing traders.
  • Prepare accurate enforcement and internal management PowerPoint presentations and arrange such meetings in the absence of the Brand Protection Director.
  • Prepare and update Brand Protection guide and all other relevant material.
  • Conduct initial research into suspicious items in Brand Protection Director’s absence.
  • Monitor intelligence & highlight trends/anomalies to Brand Protection Director.
  • Prepare accurate witness statements and necessary exhibits on behalf of Brand Protection Director to enable the successful prosecution of counterfeiters. Sign corroborative witness statements as required. Provide “expert witness” evidence at court, when required.
  • Assist in monitoring and reporting of parallel/grey market.
  • Diary management and co-ordination of travel/meetings.
  • Proactively search the internet for websites offering counterfeit products and deal with appropriately.
  • Regularly attend markets and shops throughout the UK to make test purchases and gather evidence against infringing sellers. Liaise with the relevant authorities to encourage cooperation and enforcement action.
  • Support Trading Standards and Police officers in the identification of counterfeit products during raid action.
  • Build strong relationships with other brand owner representatives and work together to share resources and tackle problem areas.
  • Keep accurate records of department expenditure and deal with invoices and payment queries.
