LOCO DICE
Influences and beginnings.
For more than 20 years the Tunisian born DJ and producer Loco Dice has been a pioneer in electronic music, gaining a reputation for fusing classic rap influences with the more hypnotic forms of house and techno.
Growing up in the German city of Dusseldorf, he started out as a rapper and opened for stars such as Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, and Usher. In the late 90s, he switched to dance music and secured a residency at local club, Tribehouse, where he was discovered by legendary German producer Timo Maas. Since then, Dice has become known for his blockbuster residencies across Europe, 12” releases for labels like Ovum, Cocoon and Richie Hawtin’s Minus, and for starting his own label: Desolat.
In June 2016, after a meeting in Dusseldorf, New Era collaborated with Dice to release a limited collection of two hundred 9FIFTY snapback caps. The collection was inspired by Dice’s youth: taking in the twin themes of his birth year (1976) and his artistic influences. To signify the producer’s cultural affinity with Germany, the collection was launched at the flagship New Era store in Berlin, where Dice performed a DJ set to special guests.
